It’s a star studded cast at LINCOLN CENTER as GHOSTS stars Ella Beatty as Regina, Billy Crudup as Pastor Manders, Levon Hawke as Oswald, Hamish Linklater as Engstrand and Lily Rabe as Helena Alving embody and fully embrace Mark O’Rowe’s adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s play Ghosts. Lincoln Center is celebrating it’s 40th anniversary and this play with these actors is yet another reason to raise a glass for this magnificent and incredible organization.

Lily Rabe and Hamish Linklater bring decades of experience and craft to their challenging roles taking us on a journey of family secrets and heartfelt loss. This beautiful theater allows for wonderful viewing from every seat and it’s fantastic to be able to see these two thespians on stage as if we’re all sitting together in the same living room. Ira Weitzman writes “the best thing about the Beaumont, Newhouse, and Tow Theaters is… you feel embraced by the action since all the seats are near the stage”. It’s also interesting to me seeing these two together (Lily and Hamish) on stage knowing that they are also partners and parents off stage.

It’s a family affair of legacy as Ella Beatty daughter of Annette Bening and Warren Beatty carries the family torch in her role as Regina. Ella moves about serving, cleaning and fulfilling her duties with grace and sincerity.

The family tree continues as Levon Hawke son of Ethan Hawk and Uma Thurman takes the stage as Oswald. Levon, gifted with height, good looks and talent is also a skilled story teller who knows how to use his body and craft for a complete character.

Billy Crudup a seasoned professional of stage and screen is a gift from the theater gods playing Pastor Manders with every ounce of his artistry. It was truly a powerful evening of theater.
The Lincoln Center Theater production of Henrik Ibsen’s GHOSTS features a new version by Mark O’Rowe and is directed by Jack O’Brien.
After several years abroad, Helena Alving’s (Lily Rabe) son, Oswald (Levon Hawke), has returned home. He carries with him a terrifying secret. Ibsen’s GHOSTS is a devastating moral thriller in which ideas of love, duty and family are mercilessly put to the test. This new version, written by one of Ireland’s leading playwrights, Mark O’Rowe, and directed by Jack O’Brien, grabs you by the throat from the outset and refuses to let go – all the way to its electrifying climax.
